The Transience of Value

Bus tickets (good for an hour and a half) incorporated into crochet (something to do while waiting for the bus, grandma’s heirlooms), permanence forced onto throwaways. Things have no intrinsic value – all value is assigned. Can art give value to what has been deemed worthless, revalidate what has been invalidated?

Do people have intrinsic value? Are we non-transferable – invisible when we step out of our allotted roles? Are we void when altered – invalidated when we deviate from the ordained norm?  Are we valued only when we are useful – worthless after our expiry date?

How do we assign value to people, so that a child destroyed by a bomb in Manchester is worthier than a child destroyed by a bomb in Baghdad?
